BACKGROUND AND APPROACH TO PSYCHOTHERAPY:

Having lived and served in diverse communities from mega cities to rural locations, I have come to appreciate the many places we each come from and enjoy learning about many faiths and cultures.  What I have learned and continue to be reminded of regularly, is that all people are worthy of respect, of being heard and of living in hope.   As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a United Methodist (UM) Endorsed Chaplain in mental health/ordained elder, I have learned the importance standing beside people as they seek to change their lives.  Often past coping tools no longer meet our current or future needs, which in turn impacts how we feel and interact.  Using a variety of cognitive/behavioral modalities with other relevant techniques that use your existing strengths as a base we can explore new approaches to make positive changes to meet your desired goals for counseling.

WORKING WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Whether you are navigating a lifelong medical diagnosis or adjusting to a new health challenge, I offer support that honors the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Living with medical conditions can impact mood, identity, relationships, and daily functioning. My approach integrates cognitive/behavioral strategies, a family-systems lens, and spiritual integration to help clients cope with uncertainty, build resilience, and find a sense of stability and hope.
I work collaboratively with individuals experiencing chronic illnesses, new diagnoses, and health related transitions, helping them manage stress, process emotional responses, and strengthen coping skills. Together, we explore practical tools, supportive narratives, and meaning centered perspectives that empower you to live more fully in alignment with your values, even in the midst of health related change.

MY MODALITIES AND THERAPUETIC INTERVENTIONS:

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a cornerstone of my therapeutic work, offering clients practical tools to understand and reshape the patterns of thinking and behavior that influence their emotions. Through CBT, I help individuals identify unhelpful thoughts, challenge self-defeating beliefs, and develop healthier coping strategies. This evidence-based approach is highly effective for concerns such as anxiety, depression, and stress management, empowering clients to take an active role in their own healing. By working collaboratively, we set meaningful goals and build skills that foster lasting change both inside and outside the therapy room.

SPIRITUAL INTEGRATION

Spiritual integration is a dimension of my counseling practice, shaped by years of experience as a United Methodist Endorsed Chaplain and an ordained elder. I believe that honoring and engaging with a person's spiritual beliefs—whether rooted in a particular faith tradition or personal sense of meaning—is vital for holistic healing. By creating space to explore spiritual questions, values, and struggles, I seek to help clients connect to sources of hope, resilience, and inner wisdom. This integrative approach respects each individual's beliefs and traditions, weaving spiritual perspectives with therapeutic modalities to foster growth and renewal. Clients are invited to share their stories and spiritual journeys, knowing that their faith and quest for meaning will be met with openness and understanding.

NARRATIVE THERAPY

Narrative therapy is another valuable approach I utilize, supporting clients in exploring and reshaping the stories they tell about their lives. By examining personal narratives, we can uncover limiting beliefs and discover new perspectives that empower positive change. This collaborative process honors each individual's lived experience and identity, encouraging growth through re-authoring one's story.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY THROUGH A FAMILY SYSTEMS LENS

My therapeutic work also incorporates a family systems perspective, recognizing that each person's emotional health is deeply influenced by the interconnected relationships within their family and support networks. By viewing individuals within the context of their family dynamics—past and present—I help clients uncover patterns, roles, and beliefs that shape their experience and wellbeing. This lens allows us to explore how family interactions contribute to challenges such as anxiety, depression, or relational conflict, while also revealing pathways for healing and resilience. Through thoughtful reflection and guided exploration, clients can gain insights into longstanding behaviors, renegotiate boundaries, and cultivate healthier connections. Whether working with clients navigating generational wounds, caregiving stress, or shifting family roles, I strive to foster an environment where individuals can honor their story and move toward lasting change with clarity and self-compassion.
